Ambassador Bridge Traffic Restored After Vehicle Fire

Cross-border traffic on the Ambassaor Bridge has been restored to normal after a fire caused by a pickup truck hauling a trailer into Canada from the U.S. side, according to a statement from bridge management.

The Detroit Fire Department responded promptly, and it is unknown what caused the passenger vehicle fire, the April 14 statement said.

The privately owned Ambassador Bridge is the busiest U.S. crossing for truck freight with either Canada or Mexico. The span crosses the Detroit River between the Motor City and Windsor, Ontario.

“We appreciate the swift action of the Detroit Fire Department and the accommodation by border agencies to restore border traffic,” bridge spokesman Mickey Blashfield said.
