Averitt Express Inc. is about to begin construction on a project to open up a truck terminal in West Jacksonville, Fla. — a 56,440-square-foot facility that will cost about $5 million to build.
Averitt purchased the land the terminal will sit on in November 2016.
The complex will have 80 standard vehicle parking spaces, four ADA spaces, 49 tractor spaces and 162 trailer spaces.
Averitt employs 77 people at a smaller location in Jacksonville, which will close after the new building opens. But the company will hire more workers to fill the larger space, although a specific number hasn’t been announced.
The Cookeville, Tenn.-based less-than-truckload carrier, which ranks No. 31 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America, plans to use the space to help distribute freight to the manufacturing, retail, automotive, chemical and apparel industries.
