San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Reopens
The Bay Bridge between San Francisco and Oakland, Calif., reopened Monday, less than a week after being closed due to a problem with previous repairs, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
The bridge, which carries about 26,000 vehicles a day, was reopened just after 9 a.m. local time, the paper said. It had been closed since last Tuesday.
State officials closed the bridge after repairs that were done over Labor Day weekend collapsed a steel bracket in the middle of the bridge, totaling three cars but causing no serious injuries.
A spokesman for the California Department of Transportation, or Caltrans, said workers would perform daily inspections to make sure the work was holding, the Chronicle reported.
