Peterbilt Offers Tire Pressure Monitoring System with Model 587

Peterbilt Motors Co. said the Bendix SmarTire tire-pressure monitoring system is now available for its Model 587 tractors.

The system is designed to help fleets improve fuel economy, tire maintenance and safety by alerting drivers to potential tire problems.

“TPMS provides operators with real-time, on-demand tire status that helps ensure peak performance and can give the operator early warning before potential tire failure,” Scott Newhouse, Peterbilt’s chief engineer, said in the May 5 announcement. “By helping prevent tire failure, TPMS means customers benefit from more uptime, lower operating costs and longer tire life.”

Newhouse said the TPMS display is integrated with the truck’s main instrument cluster so drivers can see the temperature and pressure of each truck tire at a glance.

The system informs the driver when there is a potential tire issue through an alert on the display and an optional audible alert.

The tire-pressure monitoring system is also an optional feature for Peterbilt Models 579 and 567.
