Peterbilt Motors Co. announced a major truck sales agreement with Prime Inc., one of the nation’s largest trucking companies.

The Denton, Texas, original equipment manufacturer said Oct. 27 that Prime ordered 900 Peterbilt Model 579s, all with Paccar MX-13 engines, for one of the Springfield, Missouri, carrier’s subsidiaries, Success Leasing. Prime ranks No. 21 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.

As with Kenworth Truck Co., Peterbilt is a division of Paccar Inc. Peterbilt said the sales are going through the Larson Group of truck dealerships, which includes 14 locations selling Peterbilts.

“We believe the Model 579 will help us attract and retain drivers, as well as provide outstanding fuel efficiency and uptime,” said Darrel Hopkins, Prime’s director of leasing.

Prime has been operating Peterbilts for more than 10 years, the Peterbilt statement said. The 900 units will be equipped with Peterbilt’s 80-inch sleeper cabs.
