NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Silver Eagle Manufacturing Co. released an automated dolly for connected vehicles that it said can help boost fuel savings by shortening distances between trailers.

The “T-Dolly,” which goes between trailers, reduces the gap between trailers when they are going more than about 45 mph and can enhance fuel economy by 2.5%, company President Gary Gaussoin said.

“It’s completely independent of anything else — it doesn’t need input for anything else,” he told Transport Topics after a press conference at the Technology & Maintenance Council’s 2015 annual meeting.

Silver Eagle worked with UPS Inc. in testing the T-Dolly through several iterations, utilizing them in regular service between Portland, Oregon, and Everett, Washington, the manufacturer said.
