Trucking is getting hip with the South by Southwest Conference and Festivals in Austin, Texas, claiming a spot on the agenda of a show that typically celebrates creativity in music, film and interactive technology.

The panel discussion, titled “Tech and Trucking: Regulations, Ridesharing and Robots,” will take place March 12 at the Downtown Austin Hilton during SXSW 2018.

The panel includes Matt Kropp, CEO of FR8Star, an online marketplace for shippers and carriers seeking to hook up and move difficult-to-fill loads; Shoaib Makani, CEO of KeepTruckin, marketer of an electronic logging device and a logbook app; and Josh Switkes, CEO of Peloton Technology, the truck platooning pioneer. The panel will be led by Lori Heino-Royer, director of business development with Daimler Trucks North America.

“The digital evolution, or revolution, in the trucking industry is well underway. Over 3.5 million commercial truck drivers have recently been required to deploy electronic logging devices,” Kropp said. “So, now that every fleet is online, most carriers are looking to innovative tech to improve all parts of their business.”

SXSW, which will run March 9-18, is celebrating its 31st year of sessions, screenings, showcases and exhibitions.
