The first National Master Freight Agreement between the Teamsters union and representatives of more than 1,000 trucking companies was signed in Chicago on Jan. 15, 1964.

The historic labor pact paved the way for similar multi-employer contracts, including a National Master Automobile Transporters Agreement covering roughly 6,000 drivers that expires Aug. 31.
