LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Truckers are able to significantly improve their profits when they have access to data and background information about the work they take on, a senior official with Truckstop.com said March 24.

“There’s a tremendous amount of data in the marketplace today and a lot of small carriers don’t take advantage of it,” Brent Hutto, chief marketing officer at Truckstop.com, told Transport Topics at the Mid-America Trucking Show. “Less than 10% use the vast amount of data that would help them make 10%, 15%, 20% more on each load, which when you consider the hundreds of loads that they move, that’s a lot of vacation money every year that they can earn.”

Truckstop.com was among the leading sponsors at this year’s show. It hosted a trio of seminars aimed at assisting freight brokers and carriers with planning, identifying profitable loads, establishing long-term relationships in the freight industry and determining accurate cost-per-mile systems.

The firm offers online tools on transportation management, route optimization, real-time rates and logistics solutions.

“There’s a disconnect between brokerages and small carriers in the audience that we deal with. So our job is to help companies create the best relationships they can so they can make the most money,” Hutto added. “We’ve been behind that a long time. Our system works that way.”
