Volvo Says New Transmission Tech Produces 5% Fuel Savings

Sweden-based Volvo AB said its European division has developed a transmission technology that leads to 5% fuel savings.

The newly developed technology, called I-See, works by taking over gear changing, brakes and throttle on gradients so they are operating the most fuel-efficient way possible.

I-See accelerates the truck up hills, remains in a high gear for as long as possible and freewheels on descents to exploit the truck’s weight as a propulsion motor, Volvo said.

Volvo AB makes Volvo Trucks and Mack Trucks in North America.
