Data for the Top 50 Global Freight Carriers list comes from a combination of company reports and revenue estimates by SJ Consulting Group. Total revenue includes passenger revenue for some railroads and airlines. Government ownership means that state-controlled entities own more than 50% of a companyâ€™s shares. Revenue for companies based outside the United States is converted to U.S. dollars based on the average rate of exchange for 2015 unless otherwise indicated.

Hub Group has reached a deal to acquire Estenson Logistics for $306 million, which, if approved, would combine the Nos. 28 and 46 companies, respectively, on the Transport Topics Top 50 list of the largest logistics companies in North America.
Annual truckload contracts were relatively flat in the first quarter, ranging from a 3% decline to a 3% increase in rates year-over-year, according to trucking executives. But if the market tightens this year, then some executives believe shippers who pushed aggressively on prices would have a difficult time finding available trucks.
