Carriers Push for Larger Trucks To Improve Efficiency, Traffic

ALTIMORE — Trucking and logistics executives said the freight transportation industry should launch a campaign to win governmental approval for increased truck weights and triple trailers nationwide.

With a shortage of qualified truck drivers, higher size and weight limits would result in the “same number of vehicles” being more productively and efficiently used, said Doug Duncan, FedEx Freight chief executive officer.

Duncan spoke at a panel discussion here Sept. 27 during Nasstrac’s fall meeting. Nasstrac was formerly known as the National Small Shippers Traffic Conference.
