Diesel Fuel Price Edges Upward

After a two week decline, the national average diesel price edged up slightly this week to 95.6 cents per gallon, up from 95.3 cents per gallon the previous week, according to the Energy Information Department.

The highest prices for diesel remain on the West Coast, which has witnessed a series of refinery setbacks, including a recent fire at Tosco’s Avon, Calif., facility. West Coast diesel averaged $1.03, down slightly from $1.04 two weeks ago.

The Oil Price Information Service in Rockville, Md., said a huge oversupply of global crude persists. Diesel prices are not expected to rise significantly any time soon. One year ago, the national retail price of diesel was $1.07.
