FMCSA Says Three States Missed CDL Deadline

hree states have missed the deadline for incorporating into state law federal legislation mandating heightened safety regulations and more stringent requirements for commercial drivers, said Patricia Lee, spokeswoman for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Under the new federal regulations, which took effect Sept. 30, truck drivers who receive two violations involving major traffic offenses — including driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol while operating a personal vehicle — would permanently lose their commercial driver licenses.

Lee would not name the three states, but warned that if they do not adopt the new federal requirements, “they could lose federal grants — including up to 5% of some funding for highways.”
