House Bill to Increase Tax Credit for Hybrids

egislation introduced in the House of Representatives Dec. 7 would increase by $3,000 the current tax credit for makers and consumers of domestic hybrid vehicles, including commercial trucks.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), would also require the federal government, except the military, to use hybrid technology in all its transportation fleets by 2015.

The measure is intended to “enlist American consumers and manufacturers of those vehicles made in the [United States] in the effort to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and create a cleaner environment,” Emanuel told Transport Topics.
