iTECH: IT - What’s It Worth?
If problems were freight, private fleets would be confronting a dramatic shortage of equipment and would be frantically looking to boost asset utilization.Indeed, increasing utilization is just one of the myriad issues bedeviling fleet managers. Others include safety compliance, security, maintenance scheduling, and fuel taxes. One of the biggest challenges for private fleets is simply trying to justify their existence in a time of rising demands and shrinking resources.
“How well fleets manage their assets and operations will largely determine success or failure,” said Mark Spicer, director of sales for Aether Systems’s Transportation and Logistics Division. Spicer was one of a panel of technology experts convened at the National Private Truck Council’s Private Fleet Management Institute in Atlanta early this year, where they shared how technology can help solve some of the problems.
