Mexico Awaits Details of Compromise

Initial Mexican reaction to the agreement between Congress and the Bush administration that is expected to lead to the opening of the U.S.-Mexico border to international trucking was muted, mainly because details of the agreement were not immediately available.

Javier Mancera, minister of trade affairs at the Mexican Embassy in Washington, D.C., suggested his country would have no problem with U.S. agents coming onto Mexican soil to examine carrier operations but said he could not comment officially until President Bush signs the legislation.
