Suit Challenges Missouri Law Revising Workers’ Comp

hearing in a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Missouri’s revised workers’ compensation law — which increases protection for trucking companies and other businesses against lawsuits and fraudulent claims — has been set for Feb. 6, an attorney said.

A trucking official said if the challenge is successful, it could lead to similar lawsuits in other states.

John Boyd, the attorney for the plaintiffs, said Missouri’s law, which took effect Aug. 28, “puts too much power into the hands of employers and could lead to more lawsuits” a-gainst employers by injured workers. The lawsuit was filed in November by about 70 labor groups.
