TSA Seeks New ATA 'Watch' Plan
he Transportation Security Administration has asked American Trucking Associations for a new, detailed proposal to expand the organization’s Highway Watch program as part of the national campaign to combat terrorism.
ATA applied for grants to run the program on Jan. 30 after TSA notified the trucking federation that it had canceled an earlier broad solicitation for competitive bids and asked only the association to apply. Congress has appropriated $20 million for the program.
In a Jan. 22 letter to ATA President Bill Graves, TSA said it was “requesting that ATA submit a Highway Watch grant application for an amount not to exceed $19.7 million.”
