U.S. Border Freight Delays Ease

Truck traffic across the northern and southern U.S. borders improved last week, contrasting sharply with the bottlenecks that stretched 12 miles and longer following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

At the same time, tighter security slowed the movement of more cargo ships coming into U.S. ports, and slowed the trucks that came to move the freight.

Waiting times for trucks to cross the Peace Bridge between Ontario and New York were reduced considerably from the 15 hours or more reported last week, said David Bradley, chief executive officer of the Canadian Trucking Alliance.
