Covenant Transportation Group said its net income increased in the fourth quarter to $3.3 million, or 22 cents a share, from $1.5 million, or 10 cents, in the same quarter in 2012.

Covenant Transportation Group’s second-quarter net income declined to $1.9 million, or 13 cents per share, from $4.3 million, or 29 cents, a year earlier.

Covenant Transportation Group reported a first-quarter loss, citing difficult weather conditions and fewer business days than the prior period.

Covenant Transportation Group turned around a first-quarter loss and posted a second quarter profit, though smaller than a year ago, the truckload carrier said.
