ABF, Teamsters Agree to 30-Day Extension on Contract Talks

ABF Freight System said it has agreed to a 30-day extension on its contract talks with the Teamsters union beyond a scheduled March 31 deadline.

The less-than-truckload carrier said in a statement on its website late Thursday that “bargaining teams continued to make progress during contract negotiations this week.”

The sides agreed to push back the National Master Freight Agreement contract deadline, which would have expired at the end of March, the statement said.

The two sides had said earlier this month they were considering extending the talks beyond the March 31 deadline.

ABF said talks will resume during the week of April 8 and reassured its customers that, “It remains business as usual while talks continue.”

ABF is the largest business unit of Arkansas Best Corp., which is ranked No. 13 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
