Abramson Leaves Transport Topics
Howard Abramson, publisher and editorial director of Transport Topics Publishing Group, has left the organization, American Trucking Associations announced.
Jeffrey Mason, ATA’s senior vice president of communications, has been appointed to lead Transport Topics Publishing Group, which is a unit of ATA, the group said Jan. 14.
Abramson, who came to Transport Topics as editor in 1998, was named publisher in 2000. He had worked for Bloomberg News previously as well as the Journal of Commerce, Traffic World and the Washington Post, and founded States News Services.
“In his time at Transport Topics, Howard built the premier news organization in the trucking industry,” ATA President Bill Graves said in a statement. “He was a respected newsman and a valuable member of the team at ATA, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
During his tenure at TT, Abramson oversaw a major expansion of the weekly newspaper in terms of staff and expanded coverage to include intermodal transportation and third-party logistics. He led the transition to digital publishing with development of ttnews.com and launched the Transport Topics Top 100, an annual listing of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
Mason has led communications for ATA for the past eight months.
“I have faith that Transport Topics will uphold the tradition of excellence as a leader in covering the news of the day in the trucking industry,” Graves’ statement said.
Expanded coverage will be included in the Jan. 20 print edition of Transport Topics.
