AFN Logistics Buys LTL, TMS Assets From HA Logistics
Niles, Illinois-based AFN didn’t disclose the terms of the purchase of the assets known as HA Advantage.
“We have a strategy in mind that is intended to help create greater value in the marketplace for our clients,” said Brian Winshall, an executive vice president at AFN. “We recognized a bit of a gap in our offerings and we desired an improvement. HA has a more mature LTL and TMS offering.”
Winshall told TT the newly acquired TMS system also has the capability to manage small packages as well as international shipments. It will provide a more robust user interface, Winshall said, and add 37 LTL carriers to AFN’s network.
The acquisition also is intended to broaden capabilities in another business sector.
“As we continue to see a strong increase in e-commerce activity, we plan to scale our LTL capabilities to take advantage of this growing market by helping our shipper customers manage their e-commerce growth more efficiently, strategically, and profitably,” said AFN’s CEO, Ryan Daube. “This is just one reason why the HA acquisition made sense for our business now. The move also strengthens our managed transportation services offering.”
The acquisition is the latest in a series of deals announced since late June. Among them are purchases by IMC Companies — which ranks No. 80 on Transport Topics' ranking of the Top 100 largest For-Hire Carriers in the U.S. and Canada — American Fast Freight and InstiCo.
HA Logistics is continuing to offer truckload, consulting and other services such as freight bill auditing.
“Our team will fit in seamlessly with AFN’s business and culture,” said Alan Huttman, President of HA Advantage. “We have a shared vision to continue to add value to the supply chains of customers by adding logistics horsepower to their operations. At the same time, we share Ryan’s commitment to creating a best place to work for employees. We’re building a winning environment together all around.”
