Amazon to Open Second Las Vegas Distribution Center
Amazon.com plans to open a fulfillment center in North Los Vegas, the second in the city and the third location in Nevada, the company announced Nov. 22.
The building will result in more than 1,000 jobs in addition to the 1,500 employees at the other Nevada locations, Amazon said in a statement.
“Our ability to expand Nevada operations is the result of two things: incredible customers and an outstanding workforce in the state,” said Akash Chauhan, vice president of North American operations. “We are excited to expand in Nevada by growing our team, creating good jobs and partnering with members of the southern Nevada community.”
“In April of last year, I was proud to be a part of the grand opening of Amazon’s Reno fulfillment center, where I was amazed by the technology, innovation and job creation Amazon brings to Nevada,” Gov. Brian Sandoval said. “By continuing to expand in Nevada, Amazon is not only meeting the needs of its customers but also Nevadans by creating more than 1,000 full-time, permanent jobs, offering generous tuition assistance and a focus on veteran and military hiring.”
The planned 800,000-square-foot warehouse in North Las Vegas will handle larger items such as big-screen televisions, kayaks and patio furniture for last-mile delivery, the company said.
