American Freightways Adds Arizona to Its List
American Freightways Corp. announced plans May 22 to expand into Arizona, its 10th new state since April 1999.
The company now runs through 42 of the 50 states either directly or through partnerships. While the partnerships do give AF a presence in both Alaska and Hawaii, it has no offices in California or seven other Western states.
A less-than-truckload carrier with headquarters in Harrison, Ark., American Freightways will open offices July 17 in five Arizona cities: Phoenix, Flagstaff, Kingman, Tucson and Yuma.

n April 17, the company expanded operations to seven states on the other side of the country by adding New York and the six New England states. A year before that, AF had added New Jersey and Pennsylvania to its roster of states served.
