American Trucking Associations President Chris Spear announced that Rusty Duckworth has been promoted to chief financial officer.

Duckworth has worked for ATA since 1999 in a variety of roles in the accounting and finance department, most recently as senior vice president and controller.

“Part of our mission is to return value for the investment our members make when they join ATA,” Spear said in a statement. “Rusty has been an excellent steward of ATA’s budget and finances in several roles with the organization, and I’m pleased that he will serve as our new CFO.”

“It is an honor to work not just with the ATA staff but on behalf of this tremendous industry,” Duckworth said in a statement. “I appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve both ATA and our membership as a part of the new leadership team.”

Duckworth earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Maryland and, in 2002, was licensed as a certified public accountant.

“I’m pleased that with Rusty in his new role, we now have a complete management team that is ready to strongly position ATA for the future,” Spear said.

Duckworth is the fifth member of the new leadership team Spear has assembled at ATA. Spear named the first four members of his leadership team July 21, including veteran ATA employee Elisabeth Barna as chief operating officer. Spear, who succeeded Bill Graves on July 9, also made three new hires: Sue Hensley as executive vice president of communications and public affairs, Jennifer Hall to be general counsel and Bill Sullivan as executive vice president of advocacy.

“As ATA forges this new path forward, we are lucky to have quality leaders like Elisabeth, Jennifer, Sue and Bill join our already tremendous professional staff,” ATA Chairman Pat Thomas, senior vice president for state government affairs at UPS Inc., previously said in a statement. “On behalf of the members of ATA, I’d like to congratulate all of them and wish them nothing but success in their new roles.”

UPS ranks No. 1 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
