America’s Road Team to Motorists: Be Aware of Work Zones
To commemorate National Work Zone Awareness Week, the crew at America’s Road Team is reminding motorists to slow down and be considerate at work zones.
“The men and women working to improve highways and build infrastructure are committed to getting each of us home safely, which is why as a professional truck driver, I think all drivers should pay close attention to safety when entering work zones,” said America’s Road Team Captain Paul Savill, of UPS Freight. “Slowing down and not being distracted are two life-saving habits that we are working to promote.”
The national awareness campaign kicked off April 12 in the vicinity of the Interstate 75 widening project outside Toledo, Ohio. This year’s theme is "Don't Be That Driver," which stresses the sentiment that drivers must be focused and be ready to respond to whatever conditions that are at work zones.
The professional drivers with America’s Road Team encourage motorists to reduce their speeds along work zones. They also advise to exercise caution and consideration for other drivers and construction workers, to be alert and avoid distractions, to adhere to posted signs and never tailgate.
“We’re all trying to be as safe as possible out on the roads, so we owe it to the construction workers to take further precautions when we’re traveling through their work zones,” said America’s Road Team Captain and professional driver with Wal-Mart Transportation Charlie Demchock. “With better roads, future trips become even safer and I appreciate the work those men and women do to make my job as a professional truck driver easier.”
In its 17th year, the Federal Highway Administration coordinates National Work Zone Awareness Week during April.
