Anthony Foxx to Talk Water Infrastructure at AAPA April 6

Enhancing the flow of freight along infrastructure projects at ports and the surrounding areas will be the focus of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx’s address to the American Association of Port Authorities conference April 6.

The secretary’s address will pave the way for a panel discussion on the funding provisions for freight projects included in the FAST Act. The 2015 highway law authorized financing programs for infrastructure projects along ports and freight corridors used by trucks.

Leading up to the conference, the association named Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), and Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) as their “Person of the Year” for their contributions in advancing the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA) of 2014.

“AAPA appreciates the dedication that Sen. Alexander and Rep. Simpson have shown to improving U.S. water resources and infrastructure, and the critical role they played to ensure that, in fiscal 2016, Congress met the funding commitments contained in WRRDA 2014,” said AAPA CEO Kurt Nagle.

“We look forward to working with these two influential legislators in future years on funding that continues to hit the [Harbor Maintenance Tax] target funding level and also provides more equity for donors,” Nagle added.
