NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Aperia Technologies is rolling out new tread depth diagnostics features within its Halo Connect i3 tire management system to help fleets further optimize tire life, road safety and vehicle uptime.

The connected tire platform also offers remote tire pressure set point adjustment, giving fleet managers greater flexibility and control over tire performance.

“These new capabilities close the loop for active tire maintenance, transforming tire management for fleets,” said Ralph Dimenna, Aperia’s chief commercial officer.

Aperia announced the product updates during an Oct. 13 news conference at American Trucking Associations’ 2024 Management Conference & Exhibition.

Halo Connect i3, launched earlier this year, is the latest generation of Aperia’s automatic tire inflation and monitoring technology for heavy- and medium-duty commercial trucks and trailers.

The system’s new tread diagnostics suite forecasts tire wear and provides proactive service recommendations based on analysis of tire tread depth data.

Tire-related issues are responsible for a significant number of accidents and vehicle downtime, Dimenna said.

“Most of that’s due to chronic underinflation,” he said. “We solve that with a combination of keeping the tires properly inflated, and now, giving them alerts on which tires they need to go check the next time that truck comes in for service.”

These diagnostic capabilities also help fleets optimize their retread programs and get the full value out of their tires.

“Tires are an investment for all these customers,” Dimenna said. “They’re buying tires so they can retread them multiple times.”

Aperia’s system can extend tread life by 15-20% and improve fuel economy by 1-2%, he said.

The tread depth diagnostics suite can capture tread depth data from multiple sources, including drive-over readers and scans of paper clipboards marked with manual measurements.

A premium option incorporates a laser-based handheld 3D tread scanner to detect irregular tire wear, mismatched tires and alignment issues.

Aperia’s tread diagnostic suite is currently available for pilot customers and will be released to all Halo Connect customers in December through the Halo Tech App on Google Play and the Apple App Store.

Halo Connect i3 also enables fleet managers to remotely adjust tire pressure set points for vehicles equipped with the tire management technology. This capability gives fleets greater control over tire performance across a variety of conditions.

For example, fleets can adjust tire pressure set points to compensate for seasonal or regional temperature changes.

Users also can customize set points for specific trucks based on their load weights rather than setting the same pressure levels across their entire fleet.

“With the embedded capabilities of the tool, you can actually make those changes in real time, whether that’s from your desktop or the application we give you,” Dimenna said. “We give you the ability to make those changes.”

In addition, fleet managers can remotely certify and tune the inflation levels of newly installed tires to simplify adjustments after tire changes.
