ATA Foundation Leads Research That Benefits Safety, Operations

Conducting fiscally conservative, sound science that advances trucking’s agenda is the goal of the ATA Foundation.

The 46-year-old foundation is reinventing itself to be more relevant to the everyday concerns of carriers while researching the issues that will affect trucking down the road.

Under the direction of noted transportation safety expert Susan M. Coughlin, the foundation is emphasizing trucking research that is both on the cutting edge of science and has immediate operational applications, including reducing congestion, managing truck driver fatigue and finding new sources of truck drivers.

“We have narrowed down our research focus to those areas that best fit into ATA’s strategic objectives,” Coughlin said.
