ATA Names Safety Director of the Year
HOUSTON — Chris Licht, director of safety and training for Anderson Trucking Service in St. Cloud, Minn., is American Trucking Associations’ 1998 Safety Director of the Year. Licht received the award Oct. 13 at the ATA Safety Management Council’s annual meeting. He also took office as the organization’s chairman.
Since Licht joined Anderson, the company has reduced its overall accident frequency by 27%; the frequency of recordable accidents reported to the Department of Transportation has been reduced by 9%; and the ratio of DOT recordable-preventable accidents has dropped 24%. In his first year at the company, Licht achieved a $1 million reduction in workers’ compensation costs.

Licht has worked in truck safety for more than 25 years, the last three with Anderson. He began his career as a regional safety supervisor for several major less-than-truckload carriers before serving with a private carrier and several truckload companies.
“Chris has a passion and dedication to safety. I knew when we hired him he would be safety director of the year at some point,” said Oscar Kleman, Anderson’s vice president of human resources.
