American Trucking Associations Tuesday reaffirmed its support for legislation that would provide federal funding for commercial vehicle parking at rest areas.

ATA Senior Vice President Dave Osiecki spoke about the law, named “Jason's Law,” at a press conference with lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Truck driver Jason Rivenburg was killed last March at an abandoned South Carolina gas station.

The legislation would provide funds for building new rest areas and expanding and improving existing ones, ATA said in a release. Rep. Paul Tonko (D-N.Y.) introduced the legislation in the House of Representatives last May, and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) introduced a companion bill in the Senate.

Osiecki said that rest areas allow truck drivers to safely and effectively follow hours-of-service regulations and get off the road when they are tired.
