The head of safety policy at American Trucking Associations will move to a new role as lead for the Lytx trucking commercial team, the analytics firm announced Aug. 18.

Rob Abbott, vice president of safety policy for ATA, will succeed Rob Bartels, a longtime Lytx commercial and market development executive who is retiring. The San Diego-based firm specializes in video telematics.

“Rob’s deep expertise in transportation safety and his advocacy for trucking is further evidence of the meaningful partnership that Lytx seeks with its clients, particularly in trucking where safety policy so profoundly affects how a carrier operates,” said Doron Lurie, Lytx executive vice president and chief commercial officer.

Abbott has been at ATA since 2010, leading safety policy development. Before ATA, he was vice president of safety and compliance with TransForce, a transportation staffing and compliance services firm.

“I’ve spent years interacting with Lytx DriveCam users in my daily work with the ATA, and I’ve seen firsthand the immediate and positive impact that the DriveCam program can have on safety and on CSA scores,” Abbott said, referring to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Compliance, Safety, Accountability performance scoring program for carriers.
