The American Transportation Research Institute has named Steve Williams, president of flatbed carrier Maverick USA, its new chairman.
Williams, a former American Trucking Associations chairman, replaces outgoing ATRI Chairman Doug Duncan, president of FedEx Freight, who recently announced his retirement.
ATRI’s relationship with ATA “has enabled us to do a lot of work for government agencies,” Duncan said.
Williams, who has served on the ATRI Board since 2006, said will focus on increasing ATRI’s visibility, highlighting the value of ATRI’s research, and the crucial role of scientific data in advancing the industry’s safety and productivity.
“ATRI delivers the data gathering and analysis to inform the discussion on a host of headline issues, including onboard safety systems, freight performance measures and driver fatigue. Armed with the facts, carriers can make the right choices for meeting the challenges ahead,” he said.
Williams was ATA’s chairman from 2004-2005 and was first appointed to ATRI’s board in 2006.
