Averitt to Use SkyBitz Trailer-Tracking System

Averitt Express will use the global locating system trailer tracking technology made by trucking technology firm SkyBitz.

Averitt will initially deploy SkyBitz trailer-tracking technology for the more than 4,000 trailers in its truckload fleet, and following that plans to implement the technology for its less-than-truckload and dedicated fleets, SkyBitz said Tuesday.

Averitt Express is employing SkyBitz trailer tracking technology to improve productivity and equipment utilization by knowing where every trailer in the fleet is at any given moment.

“We completed a comprehensive [return-on-investment] analysis for several trailer-tracking providers, and we chose SkyBitz based on the cost of the units and installation costs,” said David Henry, Averitt’s director of system design.

Averitt Express is ranked No. 28 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
