San Bernadino County’s transportation agency will get nearly $10 million in federal stimulus funds for a clean-energy truck project, the San Bernardino (Calif.) Sun newspaper reported Sunday.
San Bernardino Associated Governments — known as Sanbag — will get the funds from the federal stimulus program for an alternative-fuels project, which will be used to purchase 262 liquefied natural gas trucks for one of the largest transportation logistics companies in North America, the paper said.
The grant funds also will be used to build two refueling stations in San Bernardino and Southgate, the Sun reported.
Sanbag is partnering with trucking company J.B. Hunt Transport Services and other public and private partners on the project, the paper said.
Nearly half of the company’s trucks will be stationed at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail yard in San Bernardino, with 17 in Rialto, seven in Fontana and two in Ontario, Calif., while the rest will be throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties, the paper said.
