California Company Loses Hazmat License

The California Highway Patrol said it revoked the hazardous materials transportation license of Sabek Transportation, the company that owned the tanker truck involved in a collision that destroyed portions of a major interstate highway near the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

CHP revoked the license after an inspection of Sabek’s terminal in King City, Calif., placed two vehicles out of service and cited the company for “deficiencies . . . in hazardous materials communications,” according to CHP records.

Calls to Sabek were not returned.

The April 29 accident prompted the closure of two interchange connectors. The Interstate 580/Interstate 80 connector, which was destroyed in the accident, reopened May 25, according to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s (R) office.
