CF Insider Named Chief Executive

Consolidated Freightways named a 31-year veteran employee as chief executive officer May 8, ending a three-month search to fill the position.

Also, the company marked its entry into a new freight market with the first acquisition since being spun off from CNF Inc. in 1997.

Patrick H. Blake, 51, will head both the holding company and the trucking company of CF of Menlo Park, Calif. In addition, he will serve as president of the holding company.

He succeeds W. Roger Curry, who retired in January. G. Robert Evans, the corporation’s vice chairman, had been filling the job on an interim basis.
