Non-asset based logistics provider C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc. named Robert Biesterfeld president of its North American surface transportation division.
The promotion is effective Jan. 1 and he will succeed Scott Satterlee, who will retire.
Biesterfeld, a 16-year veteran of the company, is currently vice president of the company’s truckload service unit. After assuming his new post, he will report to John Wiehoff, the company’s CEO.
Eden Prairie, Minnesota-based C.H. Robinson ranks No. 4 on the Transport Topics list of the 50 largest logistics companies in North America. It moved to No. 4 this year from No. 6 in 2014, partly as a result of its January acquisition of online freight broker Freightquote.com.
Wiehoff, in a statement, called Biesterfeld a strong leader with a proven track record of success whose history with the company “positions him well to lead NAST.”
Also, Wiehoff credited Satterlee’s leadership for driving growth and efficiency, plus cultivating talent at the division that “provides Bob with a tremendous platform to build upon.”
Biesterfeld’s earlier roles at the company included vice president of sourcing and temperature controlled transportation and the sourcing division’s general manager for the Southwest region. He began his career as an account manager in the corporate procurement and distribution services office.
