Chipman Relocation Expands in California With Purchase of Olsen & Fielding

Chipman Relocation & Logistics has acquired Olsen & Fielding Moving Services, a company based in Sacramento, Calif., that provides commercial and residential moving services under the Mayflower Transit banner and is a provider of moving services to the U.S. Department of Defense.
The deal is the latest in a series of acquisitions by Chipman that, along with organic growth, has doubled the company’s annual revenue over the past four years to about $60 million in 2018.
Prior acquisitions have included: American Relocation & Logistics in 2018, San Diego Van & Storage in 2017, Solano Moving & Storage in 2016, Hidden Valley Moving & Storage in 2015, Excel Moving Services in 2014 and Whittier Moving & Storage in 2014.
Olsen & Fielding was founded in 1952 under the name National Transfer and Storage. “Culturally, it’s a synergistic fit for both companies,” said Justin Chipman, president of Chipman Relocation & Logistics in Alameda, Calif.
“We share common core values and a deep-rooted understanding of operating as a growth-oriented family-owned business,” Chipman said in a statement June 3.

The acquisition of Olsen & Fielding is expected to boost Chipman’s moving business in the Sacramento market and provide additional warehousing space, Chipman added.
“Together, we will make an impact by having a stronger team with increased capacity, while maintaining the singular goal of providing our collective customers with a remarkable experience every step of the way — every day,” he said.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Chipman was started in 1939 by Arthur and Dorothy Chipman in Vellejo, Calif. The company now has 12 locations in California, Oregon and Washington and operates a sizable international relocation business.
Chipman is part-owner of UniGroup Inc., the nation’s largest interstate household goods mover and the holding company for locally owned moving agents under the United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit banners. UniGroup ranks No. 19 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America.
