Cirillo to Retire From FMCSA

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Chief Safety Officer Julie A. Cirillo announced Tuesday that she will retire at the end of 2002.

Julie. A CirilloCirillo served as acting FMCSA administrator in early 2000 when the agency was launched, and again in 2001, in the beginning of the Bush administration.



In 1999, she was named to head the Office of Motor Carrier Safety, FMCSA’s predecessor agency.

rior to her appointment to lead OMCS, Cirrilo spent 21 years in various capacities at the Federal Highway Administration.

FMCSA administrator Joseph M. Clapp named Cirillo to her current position shortly after he took over the helm of the agency last September.

In an email message to staff, Cirillo said “I have decided to retire at the end of the year. Together we have accomplished much and I am extremely proud (personally and professionally) to be retiring from FMCSA.."
