With two months left in 1999, sales of Class 8 trucks have already topped last year’s record total by about 7,000.
Through October, sales totaled 216,461, according to Ward’s Communications, a Southfield, Mich., analysis firm that compiles automotive industry sales figures. Class 8 sales during October were 22,945, a 20.8% increase from the October 1998 total of 19,002
At the current pace, sales for 1999 would reach nearly 260,000, smashing the record set in 1999 by 50,000.
However, falling orders in October indicate that a third consecutive record year is unlikely.
