Construction Spending Falls 0.6%

Construction spending fell 0.6% in November, the Commerce Department said Monday.

The downturn followed a revised 0.4% drop the previous month, and was smaller than the 1.4% decline forecast by economists, Bloomberg reported.

Private residential construction plunged 4.2%, the biggest drop since July, while non-residential construction projects, including public spending, rose 1%.

Construction spending can boost demand for trucking services because spending increases the number of shipments of goods and building materials.
