Container Volumes Rise at Port of L.A.
The Port of Los Angeles said its September loaded container volume rose 1.5% from a year ago.
Loaded imported containers rose to just over 385,000 twenty-foot equivalent units, while loaded outbound containers slipped 2.6% to about 172,500 TEUs.
Combined loaded imports and exports for August increased 1.5% to almost 558,000 TEUs, the port said Monday.
Including empty containers, which rose by 20% to just over 187,000 TEUs, total September cargo traffic rose 5.6%, marking the port’s busiest cargo month in almost two years.
Year-to-date volume is 5.2% over the same period last year, at almost 6.2 million TEUs, the port said.
The Port of Los Angeles and neighboring Port of Long Beach make up the largest U.S. container port complex.
