Contrans’ Fourth-Quarter Income Slips

Contrans Group said Tuesday its fourth-quarter earnings fell to C$4.6 million, or 14 cents a share, from C$5.2 million, or 29 cents, a year earlier.

Revenue rose slightly, to C$99.8 million from C$99.2 million a year ago, the company said.

For the full year, Contrans earned C$17.6 million, or 53 cents per share, compared with C$23 million, or 77 cents, in 2009. Revenue rose to C$396.3 million, from C$373.6 million.

Contrans entered the waste collection business last year with its acquisitions of ProWerx Disposal Ltd. and certain contracts and waste collection assets from BFI Canada’s Edmonton, Alberta operation, the Canadian Press reported.

“We have been very pleased with the contributions that these acquisitions have made to Contrans’ profitability to date,” CEO Stan Dunford said in a statement.

Contrans, Woodstock, Ontario, is ranked No. 58 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
