CSX Reports Record Second-Quarter Profit

CSX Corp. late Tuesday reported record second-quarter earnings, as its profit rose to $506 million, or 46 cents per share, from $414 million, or 36 cents, a year ago.

Revenue rose 13% to $3 billion, the eastern freight railroad said in a statement.

Higher revenue was “driven by volume growth, pricing that reflects the value of freight rail transportation, and recoveries that offset higher fuel prices,” CSX said.
