The Canadian Trucking Alliance has reiterated its support for an electronic on-board recorder mandate in response to a discussion paper prepared by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators.
The paper discussed a wide variety of issues related to a possible Canadian EOBR mandate at the federal level such as possible safety benefits and manufacturer requirements.
CTA said that EOBRs would ensure that hours-of-service regulations are followed and would level the playing field among carriers.
“Enforcement of the hours of service rules has been spotty at best,” CTA said in a statement.
CTA acknowledges that there are issues that must be resolved before a mandate, such as privacy, technology, costs and harmonization with United States regulations.
CCMTA will present a final report on its findings to the Council of Deputy Ministers of Transportation in October, CTA said.
