Cummins’ CEO Solso to Retire; Linebarger Named Successor

Truck engine maker Cummins Inc. said late Tuesday that Chairman and CEO Tim Solso will retire at the end of the year.

Solso, 64, will be succeeded by Tom Linebarger, currently Cummins’ president and chief operating officer. Solso had been chairman and CEO since 2000.

In a statement, Alexis Herman, lead director of Cummins’ board, praised Solso for leading the company through many years of record performance and outstanding shareholder returns.

Solso has spent 40 years at Cummins. Linebarger, 48, has spent 17 years with Cummins and served as chief financial officer and the president of Cummins Power Generation.

In Tom Linebarger we have an individual who shares the same qualities of leadership and commitment to Cummins' values as his predecessors, said Herman. He has extensive experience in the operational and financial aspects of the company.
