It is all about business for trucking safety officials meeting this week at the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s conference in Portland, Ore.
James Hebe, president of Freightliner Corp., and Julie Cirillo, head of the Office of Motor Carrier and Highway Safety, will speak Sept. 20. They will be followed the next day by Tim Lynch, president of the Motor Freight Carriers Association, which represents unionized, less-than-truckload carriers.

The guest list will feature the top executives from a leading truck manufacturer, a trade association and a federal oversight agency.
This year’s meeting, which runs through Sept. 22, will see several firsts, said Stephen Campbell, who replaced Russ Fiste as executive director of CVSA in March. “We’re trying for the first time a ‘state of the alliance’ speech,” Campbell said. “We’ll do a little flag waving and talking about CVSA’s vision to try and energize the members.”
